My journey has been defined by a relentless fascination with what humanity can achieve when we think beyond conventional boundaries. From my earliest days, I was captivated by space exploration and the potential of technology to transform our world in ways most people considered impossible. This passion led me to pursue degrees in molecular genetics and aerospace engineering, followed by medical training, because I wanted to understand the fundamental building blocks of life and the systems that could extend human capability.
Throughout my career, I have focused on creating platforms and organizations that accelerate breakthrough innovations. I founded the XPRIZE Foundation to incentivize radical innovations that benefit humanity, designing competition models that attract diverse problem-solvers to tackle grand challenges. This work showed me that when properly structured incentives meet audacious goals, solutions emerge from unexpected places. I also co-founded Singularity University to educate and inspire leaders about exponential technologies and their convergence, helping thousands understand how to navigate and harness accelerating change.
My approach centers on abundance thinking rather than scarcity mindset. I have dedicated considerable effort to demonstrating through data and examples that technology is making previously scarce resources increasingly abundant, from energy and water to education and healthcare. This perspective shapes how I evaluate opportunities and challenges, always asking how emerging technologies might enable solutions that create value by democratizing access rather than hoarding resources.
As an entrepreneur, I have launched multiple ventures in space exploration, longevity, and other frontier areas, applying moonshot thinking principles to real business challenges. These experiences taught me that pursuing ten-times improvements often proves more achievable than incremental gains, as it forces complete reimagination rather than optimization of broken systems. I share these frameworks because I believe more people can create meaningful impact when equipped with proper tools and mindset for navigating exponential change.
